چکیده

In this paper, a framework of authentication and undeniable billing support for an agentbased roaming service in WLAN/cellular networks interworking networks is proposed. This framework circumvents the requirement of peer-to-peer roaming agreements to provide seamless roaming service between WLAN hotspots and cellular networks operated by independent wireless network service providers. Within the framework, an adaptive authentication and an event-tracking scheme have been developed, which allow the application of undeniable billing service to cellular network even when it still uses a traditional authentication scheme. The proposed modified dual directional hash chain (MDDHC) based billing support mechanism features mutual non-repudiation. Security analysis and overhead evaluation demonstrate that the proposed framework is secure and efficient. 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

An efficient non-repudiation billing protocol in heterogeneous 3G-WLAN networks

The wireless communication with delivering variety of services to users is growing rapidly in recent years. The third generation of cellular networks (3G), and local wireless networks (WLAN) are the two widely used technologies in wireless networks. 3G networks have the capability of covering a vast area; while, WLAN networks provide higher transmission rates with less coverage. Since the two n...

3G and WLAN Interworking Security: Current Status and Key

The third-generation (3G) mobile communication systems provide great coverage, complete subscriber management and nearly universal roaming. Nevertheless, 3G systems are subject to the low data rates (2Mbps highest for WCDMA). WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) provides hot spot coverage with high data rates (reaches 54Mbps while 802.11 a/g), but is subject to short range (reaches 100m the furth...

Undeniable Mobile Billing Schemes

An undeniable mobile billing system allows a mobile network service provider to bill its subscribers with trustworthy evidences. Chen, Jan and Chen proposed such a billing system by introducing a trusted third party – Observer and exploiting a hash chain mechanism. In their system, the Observer provides call time evidence to both cellular carriers and subscribers for billing. In this paper, we ...

SIM-based subscriber authentication mechanism for wireless local area networks

Authentication and roaming are two critical issues for the integration of heterogeneous networks, such as the integration of WLAN access networks and mobile cellular networks. Due to the strong points of mobile cellular networks, it is favorable to integrate the authentication mechanism ofWLAN access networks into that of mobile cellular networks. For GSM/GPRS networks, the subscriber identity ...
